Holbeach Hospital Receives Generous Donations from the Fenland Working Weekend and the Fenland Flywheelers Group
Hospital Manager, Maxine Winch, and other staff members met with members of the Fenland Working Weekend and Fenland Flywheelers on Friday 24th November, to receive cheques which will go towards hospital funds. In total nearly £800 was donated.
The Fenland Working Weekend attracts many tractor and farming enthusiasts from both near and far who are able to take their tractors and machines along to plough and cultivate the fields in the traditional way. Unfortunately Fenland Flywheelers has come to an end, and as it was a non-profit idea, it was been decided to donate the money left over in the kitty from previous meetings to the Holbeach Hospital funds.
Hospital Manager, Maxine, said “On behalf of the staff, residents and Council of Management, I would like to thank all of those involved in these two organisations who have contributed to the fantastic amount donated. We are very grateful for their continued support and the money will be put to excellent use.”
Gill’s Generous Donation to celebrate her 80th Birthday
Holbeach and East Elloe Hospital Trust wish to thank local lady, Gill Gosling, for her incredible donation of £800 after she asked friends and family members to donate to Holbeach Hospital instead of buying her birthday presents. Gill celebrated her 80th birthday on Saturday 28th October at Gedney Victory Hall.
Holbeach and East Elloe Manager, Maxine Winch, and Deputy Manager, Julia Bobey, met with Gill to accept her donation and personally thank her.
Maxine praised Gill’s selflessness, “on behalf of all of the staff and residents, and the Council of Management, I would like to thank Gill for thinking of helping others to celebrate her 80th birthday. I would like to thank Gill and all of her family and friends who very generously donated to this fantastic amount. Holbeach Hospital is currently in the process of expanding in order to provide more beds to the local community so donations such as these are very important at this time. It will be of great benefit to our residents and the community we serve and enable us to continue to provide the very best care and environment for the people who stay with us.”
Alice celebrates her 105th birthday
Alice was born on the 1st November 1912 and lived most of her life in the Coventry area before moving to Long Sutton to be closer to her family in 2003. She spent most of her life working in industry and retired at the age of 70. She enjoyed a long and happy marriage, reaching 58 years of married life before her husband passed away.
Alice has lived through both the World Wars and has vivid memories of the Blitz, as Coventry was heavily bombed. Alice has also lived through many other major events, including the Queen’s coronation and wedding.
Alice lived completely independently on her own until a few years ago and still maintains her independence and is enjoying her time at the Hospital. She celebrated her birthday with family and some special visitors who had come all the way from America to see her.
Alice puts down her long life to taking everything in moderation. Happy Birthday Alice.
Holbeach Hospital receives donation from Bakkavor Pizza
Holbeach Hospital are delighted after receiving a cheque for £1,200 from Bakkavor Pizza.
Ian and Gwen Savva of Bakkavor presented the cheque to Holbeach Hospital’s Manager Maxine Winch and Deputy Manager Julia Bobey. Ian and Gwen are both part of Bakkavor Pizza SEF [Site Employee Forum] which is a group of employees that commit to helping other employees with any problems they may have, communicating between management and employees, organising staff events, running of a site staff shop and charity fundraising throughout the year.
Apart from their larger fundraising events where in the past they have donated to St Barnabas Hospice, Farm Africa, Macmillan Cancer support they also set aside £250 per month to support any local groups etc. they can which have included Holbeach Brownies and St Marks Primary School.
The money they raised for Holbeach Hospital was achieved by selling hand prepared pizzas cooked in their own Wood Fired “WOODY” portable Pizza oven at the Holbeach Food Festival in July, Welly Wanging at the Bakkavor Fun Weekend also in July and a “Face Fit” competition that they ran on site.
Ian said “We chose to support Holbeach Hospital because not only being local, but many people who work at Bakkavor Pizza have had some sort of connection through family members or friends and they all have praised the outstanding care and compassion that has been received in what can be distressing times.”
Hospital Manager, Maxine Winch was very grateful for the donation, “I would like to thank Bakkavor for their very generous donation; Holbeach Hospital has plans to expand the number of beds it can offer the community so the money will be put to excellent use. I would like to personally thank Bakkavor and their employees; everyone who contributed to this amount should be very proud of the amount donated. On behalf of the Council of Management and those who use our service I would like to extend my thanks for this donation.”

Summer Fayre Raises Funds For Hospital
The 2nd of July was our Summer Fayre. The event was well attended by families of residents and staff as well as the local community.
Lot of fun was had with various stalls, entertainment, Laddies ice creams, delicious freshly made cakes, refreshments and lots games for all ages to enjoy.
The event was a great success and overall we managed to raise approximately £950.
Thank you to all the volunteers and to everybody who helped with stalls and decorations, as well as everybody who came to the event.
We are already planning our next event: a Dickensian style Christmas Street Fayre on 3rd December.
Holbeach Nursing Association Donates £39,200 to Holbeach Hospital to enable good work to continue in local area
Holbeach Hospital has been gifted with a substantial amount of money from Holbeach Nursing Association in order that they can continue to help the local community.
Holbeach Nursing Association (originally Holbeach Sick Poor Fund) was set up by Mrs Smith and Miss Wass before the Health Service was established in order to provide help to the local community to cover the extras required when illness happened in a family. The charity has over the years provided equipment and financial help in order to provide comfort to the sick.
As Trustees of the Association it was decided to donate the funds held to Holbeach and East Elloe Hospital Trust in order that the work can be continued within the local area.
Holbeach Hospital Manager, Maxine Winch, is extremely grateful for the generous donation and already has plans to put the money to good use, “although the Nursing Association will no longer exist, the money they have raised over the years will still benefit the local community. The members should be very proud of the substantial amount donated to us; it will be used to help fund our expansion projects which seems a fitting legacy. On behalf of the Trustees and those who use our service I would like to extend thanks for this extremely generous gift.”

Summer Fayre Sunday 2nd July 1-5pm
Come and join us for an afternoon of fun at our Summer Fayre on Sunday 2nd July 1pm until 5pm. There will be lots of stalls, music and refreshments to keep the whole family entertained. Join our residents for a buffet tea/picnic. There will be a 1950s/60s rock and roll theme to the afternoon. We look forward to seeing you there.
Annie Limming of Holbeach Turns 101 years
Holbeach Hospital resident Annie Limming celebrated her 101st Birthday on 23rd February surrounded by family and staff at the Hospital.
Annie, was a familiar face to shoppers at J.W. Limming pet and garden supplies in Fleet Street, Holbeach, from the day it was opened by her late husband Jack in 1960 until her retirement 25 years later. Jack and Annie were married for almost 40 years until his death in 1977 and had three children, two grandchildren and a great grandchild. 
Annie was born in Holbeach St. Johns where she lived until she married Jack at the age of 21. During and after WWII, Annie worked as a nurse in various hospitals until Jack opened Limmings when he converted the couple’s living room into a shop for farmers and growers. At the time of her birth, in February 1916, George V was King and Herbert Asquith was Prime Minister. Annie was born at the stroke of midnight between the 23rd and 24th February.
Her children, Jackie, Rosie and Patrick claim the secret to her longevity is down to her hardy upbringing, including drinking fresh unpasteurised milk straight from the farm, being persistently stubborn and a lifetime of hard work and graft. Mrs Limming used to go out in her 70s and help ‘old folk’ with their gardening, often people younger than herself. She was very active right up to her early 90s and has always helped people; never thinking of herself as on ‘old person.’ She also somewhat goes against current health advice and has always drank full fat cream milk and very little water.
Her children also put her long life down to the excellent care she has received at Holbeach Hospital since becoming a resident in 2009. She is currently Holbeach Hospital’s second oldest resident. Manager, Maxine Winch, said “Annie still likes playing cards and greatly enjoys the entertainment and music and movement.”
Hospital Receives £1,058 from Jack’s Spectacular Christmas Light Display in Holbeach
Holbeach and East Elloe Hospital Trust would like to thank Jack and his family, as well as members of the public, for raising over a thousand pounds which has been generously donated to the hospital.
Each year, Jack Turner, of Fleet Road Holbeach, transforms his home and gardens into a winter wonderland of spectacular lights and dazzling displays which attract visitors from miles around to raise money for Holbeach Hospital. Maxine Winch, Hospital Manager, is very grateful for his support as well as the support of members of the public who contributed to this amount:

The Hospital took some of their residents out to see Jack’s Christmas light display and they all thoroughly enjoyed the occasion.
